P5 Tall Ship visit

Primary 5 had a fantastic visit to the Tall Ship in Glasgow yesterday. Despite the weather conditions, our journey was very pleasant. The children were met by 'Molly the Maid' who looked after us for the day. She led us through our first workshop which allowed Primary 5 to experience what it is like to be a Marine Archaeologist. Children had to carefully 'excavate' replica Titanic wreck artifacts, log their position on a data entry sheet using their knowledge of co-ordinates and try to guess what the artifact was before completely uncovering it.

Our second workshop of the day allowed us to create our own menu for first class passengers. Then we had to work in teams to ensure that our tables were fit for a first class passenger. We had to set the cutlery in the correct place, fold napkins and use our measuring skills to ensure that the place settings were exact! Molly and her two assistants then inspected our tables.

After lunch Primary 5 were given the opportunity to ask questions about Morse Code and to have a go at using Morse Code. Some retired Radio Operators came along to the Tall Ship to talk to the children and demonstrate the use of Morse Code. John let the children hear what the distress message sent out by the Titanic all those years ago would have sounded like.

A wonderful day was had by everyone and we would like to thank all the adults who came along with us. A special thank you to Mrs Murray for helping to organise our trip.
